You can use a paper stencil on both leather hard and bisque fired work. On leather hard work, you can lightly press your paper cutout into the clay. On bisque work, you can either moisten the paper so that it adheres to the clay, or you can glue the paper with paper glue. Apply a layer of engobe or glaze over it, carefully remove the paper, and the shape is on your work. Simple, but you can attain surprising results with this technique.
